I had the pleasure of photographing the Duggins family for the first time during this beautiful session at Emerald Bay, Laguna Beach. The overcast day provided the perfect soft light, making this coastal session all the more magical. As an Orange County family photographer, there’s something truly special about capturing a family in such a relaxed, natural setting like the beach. The Duggins family was full of love and laughter, and it was an honor to freeze these heartfelt moments for them.
One thing I love about photographing families in Laguna Beach is how much variety we can get in one session. Even within a small stretch of shoreline, we can photograph against cliffs, open sand, and the waterline, which gives your gallery a full story without needing multiple locations. Laguna also photographs beautifully in overcast weather, because the light stays soft and the scenery remains visible without harsh contrast.
Emerald Bay is one of my favorite locations for family photography in Orange County. The serene backdrop allowed the kids to run and play freely. Sessions like this remind me why I love photographing families, it’s all about capturing the little moments that mean so much. What is the best time for Laguna Beach family photos?
The best time is usually the last hour before sunset, when the light is soft and flattering. Overcast days also photograph beautifully in Laguna Beach because the tones stay creamy and the coastline is still visible.
What should we wear for Laguna Beach family photos?
Neutral tones, soft blues, and light textures photograph best. I always recommend avoiding dark or bright colors , heavy logos so the focus stays on your family and the scenery. I so guide my clients on what photographs well when it comes to wardrobe for the family .
Where do you photograph family sessions in Laguna Beach?
Some of my favorite spots include Emerald Bay, Crescent Bay, and the coves along the Laguna coastline. I help each family choose the best location based on the look they want and the ages of their kids.
