Six months is made of details.

The kind families do not always think to document because they are small and ordinary and happening every day.

The chubby rolls at the wrists.

The way she dangles comfortably off her mama’s hip.

Learning her own neck support.

The tiny saliva bubbles she makes when she pushes air through her lips, so proud of what she just discovered.

As an Orange County baby photographer, this is one of my favorite stages and one families often skip. They photograph newborns and then suddenly it is the first birthday.

But 6 months is magic.

Helen was once a newborn in front of my lens. Wrapped up, sleepy, brand new. And now she is grabbing at her mama’s hair , making steady eye contact and full of the biggest smiles.

These in home baby sessions in Newport Beach are my favorite because they feel real. Feeding moments in the kitchen. Mom pacing and soothing her around the house. A bottle mid morning in soft window light. Everyday motherhood documented in a way that feels elevated but honest.

Styling matters too. I love mimicking the look of black and white film, the softness, the contrast, the timeless quality. I adore shooting film, but it is not always cost effective when running a business, so I create that same natural, film inspired aesthetic digitally.

This Crystal Cove family session with the Chang family was such a sweet reminder of how quickly the first year goes by. Their baby girl just turned one, and this stage is one of my favorites to photograph. I had the pleasure of photographing the Duggins family for the first time during this beautiful session at Emerald Bay, Laguna Beach. The overcast day provided the perfect soft light, making this coastal session all the more magical. As an Orange County family photographer, there’s something truly special about capturing a family in such a relaxed, natural setting like the beach. One thing I love about photographing families in Laguna Beach is how much variety we can get in one session. Even within a small stretch of shoreline, we can photograph against cliffs, open sand, and the waterline, which gives your gallery a full story without needing multiple locations. Laguna also photographs beautifully in overcast weather, because the light stays soft and the scenery remains visible without harsh contrast.

The best time is usually the last hour before sunset, when the light is soft and flattering. Overcast days also photograph beautifully in Laguna Beach because the tones stay creamy and the coastline is still visible.

What should we wear for Laguna Beach family photos?

Neutral tones, soft blues, and light textures photograph best. I always recommend avoiding dark or bright colors , heavy logos so the focus stays on your family and the scenery. I so guide my clients on what photographs well when it comes to wardrobe for the family .

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Jessica and Mike Trout during their first Newport Beach maternity session as they eagerly anticipated the arrival of their first son, Beckham Aaron Trout. As one of the most iconic figures in baseball, Mike Trout is known for his incredible talent on the field, but being able to witness him as a soon-to-be father was truly a memorable experience. Jessica glowed with love and excitement, making this Orange County maternity session incredibly special.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Irvine Cove Beach, this session was filled with raw, beautiful moments that captured the deep connection between them. The serene beach environment reflected the calm yet excited anticipation of becoming first-time parents, and it was a true honor to capture their journey as they prepared to welcome their son into the world.
