It’s been a while since I’ve shared anything personal here. Most of the time, this blog is where I feature the families I have the honor of photographing. But every now and then, I think it’s just as important to share the work I create purely for myself—the places, light, and moments that inspire me when no one’s in front of the lens.

Even though I’ve grown up here in Huntington Beach, I still like playing tourist every now and then. I’m always mesmerized by the surf culture—the way it lingers in the air, the sound of boards hitting the pavement, the light over the pier at the end of the day. There’s something about it that feels timeless. I think that’s what draws me to photographing it—trying to capture pieces of it in a way that might feel nostalgic someday, like flipping through old film photos and remembering how things felt, not just how they looked.

One of my absolute favorite ages to photograph is the 5–6-month milestone. Babies at this stage are bursting with personality, full of expression, and starting to sit up—yet still small enough to rest on mama’s hip with those sweet dangling legs and chunky rolls that melt your heart. This in-between age often gets overlooked by families who go straight from newborn to one-year sessions, but I’m here to say: don’t skip it. It’s such a fleeting, beautiful window of time—and one of the most joyful to document.

This in-home baby milestone session with the Kohnke family in Orange County was such a dream. I’ve had the honor of photographing this beautiful mama and her baby girl during their newborn session, and I was so thrilled when she reached out to capture this next chapter of their journey.

As an Orange County family photographer, few experiences are as rewarding as building lasting relationships with families like the Bouteliers. Our journey began when their firstborn was just six months old, and it’s been a privilege to document their growth over the years.

After relocating from Los Angeles to Newport Beach, Jenna and Nick sought to capture their family memories in a setting that truly feels like home—the very beaches where their daughters, Dillon and Sydney, are growing up. This year’s session was a quintessential example of Newport Beach family photography, featuring the enchanting golden hour light that bathed the family in a warm, honeyed glow. There’s something incredibly special about watching a little one grow up through my lens, and Harry and his mama, Sarah, are no exception. I have had the privilege of photographing this beautiful mother and son duo since Harry was little, watching their bond deepen with each session. Sarah, a devoted single mom, pours so much love into her son, and it radiates through every frame. As a single mother myself, I know all too well how often we’re the ones behind the camera, capturing life but rarely stepping into it. That’s why, when I get a mama like Sarah in front of my lens, I make sure to create images that feel like timeless keepsakes—photos her son will treasure for a lifetime.

Sarah and Harry just melt into each other, laughing, playing, and embracing without hesitation.Harry made a heart-shaped necklace just for his mom, a sweet little token of love that she’ll undoubtedly treasure. The way he beamed with pride as he held it up and the way Sarah instinctively reached to brush something off his face—those little in-between moments, the ones that often go unnoticed, are the ones I live to capture. Because motherhood is made up of these quiet gestures—the small, fleeting details that may seem ordinary now but will one day mean everything.

Many families think the best beach backdrops come with rocky cliffs or turquoise waters, but Huntington Beach offers something just as stunning—a wide, open canvas. With soft dunes, golden light, and plenty of space for kids to run free, it’s one of my favorite locations for family sessions. It also tends to be less crowded, making it the perfect setting for families who want a relaxed, intimate experience. And for locals who grew up visiting these shores, a session here is a beautiful way to document a place that holds special memories.

The McClerney family of five embraced this space beautifully. Their session was filled with movement, connection, and even a special guest—their sweet pup, who joined for a few frames, adding to the perfectly imperfect moments that make family photography so special.

When I delivered this gallery to this mama, she told me all of her friends were asking if these images were from a magazine—which is just about the best compliment a photographer can receive. And honestly?
