In my opinion, the most beautiful backdrops are the ones that have quietly held generations of laughter, heartache, celebrations, milestones as well as ordinary days.

This wasn’t just a beautiful house. It is the home where this mama grew up. The home where she got married. The home where she brought home her first two babies. The home where she cared for her own mom through one of life’s most tender seasons.

And now, years later, it has become the place where another tiny life is welcomed into a story that began long before he ever arrived.

That’s what makes a place feel sacred.

It remembers who you were long before you became who you are today.

There is something incredibly special about documenting a family in the season just before everything changes.

When I met Victoria, Josh, Kent, and Iris for their maternity session in Huntington Beach, it wasn’t just about celebrating a pregnancy. It was about preserving the last few moments of life exactly as they know it before welcoming a new baby into their family.

These in-between seasons are often the ones that slip away the fastest.

One day, Kent and Iris will be older siblings with little memories of life before their newest sibling arrived. The routines, the family dynamic, the way they all fit together in this exact chapter will slowly become something they can only revisit through photographs. That’s why I believe maternity sessions are just as much about documenting the family as they are about documenting the pregnancy.

For their session, Victoria wore a beautiful dress from Shop Doen that felt perfectly at home against the soft coastal landscape of Huntington Beach. The effortless silhouette moved beautifully in the ocean breeze and complemented the relaxed, timeless feel we wanted for their evening together.

As the sun slowly dropped toward the horizon, we wandered the shoreline together, giving the kids room to play, explore, and simply enjoy being together. Some of my favorite photographs always happen between the posed moments, the spontaneous hugs, tiny hands reaching for mom and dad, quiet glances between parents, and the laughter that naturally unfolds when children are allowed to just be themselves.

That’s one of the reasons I love photographing families at the beach.

Huntington Beach offers one of the most beautiful settings in Orange County for family and maternity photography. The open shoreline, soft neutral tones, and warm golden light create a timeless backdrop that never competes with the people in front of the camera. Visiting the California coast with their sweet boy, Bo, the Scott family chose Montage Laguna Beach for their family session while spending time in Newport Beach, wanting to document this season together as they prepare to welcome another baby into the family. The cloudy coastal morning paired with the dramatic cliffs and layered textures of Laguna Beach created the dreamiest backdrop, giving the entire session a soft, timeless feel that Montage always photographs so beautifully with. Tanner and Maddie fully leaned into the slower pace of the morning with Bo, allowing space for genuine moments to unfold naturally along the shoreline and pathways overlooking the ocean. Montage Laguna Beach is always one of my favorite locations for family sessions because of the variety it offers from the coastal architecture and cliffside views to the textured beach below, all within one location.

There is something especially meaningful about photographing a family through the years,  from when Jackson was first a newborn, to welcoming Vivian, and now documenting the Rhodes family as they prepare for baby number three.

This spring maternity session along the Huntington Beach coastline felt especially beautiful, with fresh seasonal blooms and pockets of green foliage lining the path just above the sand. The soft neutral tones of the beach reflected beautifully onto their skin, creating those creamy, luminous tones that photograph so naturally in coastal light.

As we moved through the session, we made our way from the blooms to the lifeguard tower and eventually down to the water, letting the changing scenery mirror this season of growth their family is in.

This maternity session at Montage Laguna Beach was especially meaningful for Morgan and her daughters, Goldie and London, as they spent time in Laguna Beach waiting for the arrival of their twin boys and wanting to remember this special season before their family changes in such a big and beautiful way.

Staying at the Montage gave them the perfect setting to remember this chapter, with ocean views, soft light, coastal paths, and beach access all in one location.

Morgan carried such a calm presence throughout the session, while Goldie and London moved in and out of the frame in the sweetest way, close to their mom, playful one moment and quietly taking in the next, already holding that excitement that comes when younger siblings are about to arrive.

There is something especially meaningful about photographing older daughters before new babies arrive because these images quietly hold the final moments of one chapter before another begins. Soon, their family rhythm will shift with two newborn boys, two tiny cries, two bassinets, and an entirely new pace of life.

As a Laguna Beach maternity photographer, sessions like this are why I love recommending this stretch of coastline for maternity photos. The bluffside paths, ocean views, textured stone, and beach access all photograph beautifully, especially near sunset when the light softens and everything feels calm.

One of the things that made this Huntington Beach maternity session with Reeva and Mark especially fun to create was how much variety we were able to capture within one evening, which is one of the reasons I love photographing maternity sessions along the Orange County coast.

We began up on the cliffs, where the ocean stretched endlessly behind them and gave us that wide, open coastal backdrop so many families are drawn to when booking a Huntington Beach maternity photographer. From there, we moved down toward the sand, incorporating one of Huntington Beach’s iconic lifeguard towers for a classic Southern California feel, then finished along a quiet trail lined with green foliage and seasonal blooms that gave their gallery an entirely different mood and texture.

That shift in scenery within one location is what adds so much depth to a maternity gallery. It allows for images that feel layered, intentional, and diverse without ever needing to travel far.

The light also kept evolving in the best way throughout the evening, which always pushes me creatively as an artist. We had soft coastal sunset light, a few moments where the sun broke through just enough to create beautiful sunbeams, and later that dreamy diffused glow that Huntington Beach often gives right before sunset.

Being able to work through different backdrops, angles, and changing light like this is one of the reasons Orange County maternity sessions can feel so rich and full, and it made this gallery especially fun to create.

This Huntington Beach maternity session is a beautiful reminder of why the Southern California coastline is one of the most sought after locations for maternity photography. As an Orange County maternity photographer, I love incorporating the natural beauty of our coastal landscapes, and this session offered the best variety, blooming green foliage along the cliffs, soft ocean light against the reflective sky, iconic turquoise Huntington Beach lifeguard towers, and playful moments along the shoreline. Mimi and her daughter Mia shared such a sweet connection as they walked through the coastal greenery and splashed along the water, creating a collection of images that beautifully capture this season of motherhood.

Sessions like these hold a quiet kind of meaning. A moment in pregnancy where you are still the mother of one, but you are already holding space for two. Your toddler may not fully understand what is coming, but she can sense that something is changing. Six months is made of details.

The kind families do not always think to document because they are small and ordinary and happening every day.

The chubby rolls at the wrists.

The way she dangles comfortably off her mama’s hip.

Learning her own neck support.

The tiny saliva bubbles she makes when she pushes air through her lips, so proud of what she just discovered.

As an Orange County baby photographer, this is one of my favorite stages and one families often skip. They photograph newborns and then suddenly it is the first birthday.

But 6 months is magic.

Helen was once a newborn in front of my lens. Wrapped up, sleepy, brand new. And now she is grabbing at her mama’s hair , making steady eye contact and full of the biggest smiles.

These in home baby sessions in Newport Beach are my favorite because they feel real. Feeding moments in the kitchen. Mom pacing and soothing her around the house. A bottle mid morning in soft window light. Everyday motherhood documented in a way that feels elevated but honest.

Styling matters too. I love mimicking the look of black and white film, the softness, the contrast, the timeless quality. I adore shooting film, but it is not always cost effective when running a business, so I create that same natural, film inspired aesthetic digitally.

The Howell family welcomed their sweet baby girl . We chose to do their newborn photos at their home in Newport Beach and it was the perfect space to document their first days at home together.

Their home had the kind of light that makes everything feel gentle. The tones were soft and neutral, which photographed beautifully and gave the entire gallery that timeless, film-like feel.

Mom wore a gorgeous neutral dress from Dôen, the kind of piece that feels feminine and dainty but effortless, and photographs so beautifully for an in-home lifestyle session. It added just the right amount of movement and texture.

The newborn stage is so short it almost feels unfair.

You spend months waiting… and then suddenly they’re here, and the days blur together. One minute they’re curled up and sleepy. Then they’re stretching out, growing out of newborn clothes, and the tiny features you swore would never change are already different.

Thats why I love documenting families in the comfort of their home. The space where love grows.

You don’t have to pack up the diaper bag. You don’t have to get out the door. You don’t have to worry about timing your baby’s mood around a drive or a location. You can stay home, take breaks, feed your baby, change diapers, and breathe.

As a Newport Beach newborn photographer, I’m always mindful of how vulnerable and exhausting this season can feel for moms. My job is to take away some stress , it’s to create something beautiful while you get to stay in the comfort of your own space, in your own rhythm with access to everything your newborn needs.

The result is always more natural, more meaningful, and more you when its in the same space you make memories in on the daily. It’s life as we want to remember it.

Because one day, this home won’t feel like the newborn days anymore. The nursery will change. The tiny swaddles will be packed away. The quiet moments on the bed, the way you held her, the way you looked at each other like you couldn’t believe she was real… will start to feel like a dream you almost forgot.

But these images will bring you back.

To the truth of it.

The tenderness. The exhaustion. The love.

The beginning of your family.
