This in-home newborn session in Newport Beach was the perfect example of what I love most as an Orange County newborn photographer: capturing the quiet, fleeting moments that unfold naturally in those first days at home. While mom breastfed the baby in soft window light, dad sat close by reading Dr. Seuss to their toddler , the kind of real-life scene that says everything about this season without anyone needing to “pose.” In between the calm, there were bursts of toddler energy too,  jumping on the bed, climbing into snuggles, and circling back again and again to check on the baby. With a neutral, film-inspired aesthetic and a timeless approach to storytelling, I focused on the details that matter most , tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, and the way big siblings hover close while they’re still figuring it all out. These are the moments that will mean everything years from now, long after the newborn days are gone.

I had the sweetest opportunity to document Lorissa as she welcomed her baby girl into the world. Her backyard felt like a hidden little oasis, full of lush greenery, a backdrop of that gorgeous bougainvillea, and just this calm, grounded energy that matched her perfectly.

For this session I wanted to lean into a more editorial and film-inspired style, playing with some edits, letting light and texture lead, and pulling out the kind of raw beauty that’s impossible to stage. What I envisioned going in really came to life, and Lorissa was the perfect muse.

When creating imagery for families, I hope to tell their story. I hope that what I create allows the viewer to go back in time for a moment, relishing in the sentiment of that chapter of his/her life , as a way to still hold onto it, in a sense. We all know time can be a fleeting thing but creating imagery that reflects the stage of life you are in now , allows you to re-live that beautiful moment again later. Photographs are what keep us connected ; reminding us of people, places, feelings, and stories.

Whether its remembering as a child how you flew high in the air when dad jumped on the trampoline with you, the nostalgia of moms scent when you cuddled up beside her with a book, or the sound of notes on the piano playing in the house with your fur-babies crowding around your feet; all of it encompasses a part of your story, a sliver of their childhood . Photographs are a way to savor that. Reminds me of my fav quote ; “You never know the value of a photograph, until its all you have left“. Ain’t that the truth though? Something to ponder when considering whether to take the picture or be in the picture. ;)
