The Howell family welcomed their sweet baby girl . We chose to do their newborn photos at their home in Newport Beach and it was the perfect space to document their first days at home together.

Their home had the kind of light that makes everything feel gentle. The tones were soft and neutral, which photographed beautifully and gave the entire gallery that timeless, film-like feel.

Mom wore a gorgeous neutral dress from Dôen, the kind of piece that feels feminine and dainty but effortless, and photographs so beautifully for an in-home lifestyle session. It added just the right amount of movement and texture.

The newborn stage is so short it almost feels unfair.

You spend months waiting… and then suddenly they’re here, and the days blur together. One minute they’re curled up and sleepy. Then they’re stretching out, growing out of newborn clothes, and the tiny features you swore would never change are already different.

Thats why I love documenting families in the comfort of their home. The space where love grows.

You don’t have to pack up the diaper bag. You don’t have to get out the door. You don’t have to worry about timing your baby’s mood around a drive or a location. You can stay home, take breaks, feed your baby, change diapers, and breathe.

As a Newport Beach newborn photographer, I’m always mindful of how vulnerable and exhausting this season can feel for moms. My job is to take away some stress , it’s to create something beautiful while you get to stay in the comfort of your own space, in your own rhythm with access to everything your newborn needs.

The result is always more natural, more meaningful, and more you when its in the same space you make memories in on the daily. It’s life as we want to remember it.

Because one day, this home won’t feel like the newborn days anymore. The nursery will change. The tiny swaddles will be packed away. The quiet moments on the bed, the way you held her, the way you looked at each other like you couldn’t believe she was real… will start to feel like a dream you almost forgot.

But these images will bring you back.

To the truth of it.

This in-home newborn session in Newport Beach was the perfect example of what I love most as an Orange County newborn photographer: capturing the quiet, fleeting moments that unfold naturally in those first days at home. While mom breastfed the baby in soft window light, dad sat close by reading Dr. Seuss to their toddler , the kind of real-life scene that says everything about this season without anyone needing to “pose.” In between the calm, there were bursts of toddler energy too,  jumping on the bed, climbing into snuggles, and circling back again and again to check on the baby. With a neutral, film-inspired aesthetic and a timeless approach to storytelling, I focused on the details that matter most , tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, and the way big siblings hover close while they’re still figuring it all out. These are the moments that will mean everything years from now, long after the newborn days are gone.

The newborn stage passes sometimes before a mom ever feels ready for photos. You’re healing, adjusting, barely sleeping, and just trying to find your new rhythm, and the idea of getting dressed and showing up can feel like too much. I totally get it. I want moms to know that waiting until things settle means you’re honoring your body and your season. One or two months can still be such a beautiful age to document your baby and your family, and every stage is worth documenting honestly. While my professional preference for classic newborn sessions is within the first 10 to 14 days, when babies are usually curled up, sleep more deeply, and need fewer breaks for soothing, that doesn’t take away from the beauty of later sessions , it simply offers a different kind of connection and story.

Photographing this gorgeous family with their new one-month-old son was a dream. I love the way their little guy already makes such steady eye contact and expressions. It just goes to show their is really no wrong age for photos and Torrey Pines State Beach, with its mix of cliffs, rocks, and open shoreline, gave us such a beautiful backdrop for this very family beach session. ;)

It was such a joy to capture the Parthemer Family during their in-home newborn session. When creating imagery for families, I hope to tell their story. I hope that what I create allows the viewer to go back in time for a moment, relishing in the sentiment of that chapter of his/her life , as a way to still hold onto it, in a sense. We all know time can be a fleeting thing but creating imagery that reflects the stage of life you are in now , allows you to re-live that beautiful moment again later. Photographs are what keep us connected ; reminding us of people, places, feelings, and stories.

Whether its remembering as a child how you flew high in the air when dad jumped on the trampoline with you, the nostalgia of moms scent when you cuddled up beside her with a book, or the sound of notes on the piano playing in the house with your fur-babies crowding around your feet; all of it encompasses a part of your story, a sliver of their childhood . Photographs are a way to savor that. Reminds me of my fav quote ; “You never know the value of a photograph, until its all you have left“. Ain’t that the truth though? Something to ponder when considering whether to take the picture or be in the picture. ;)
